painting stairs

my entrance stair case is carpeted. I'm assuming theres plywood under it. I want to rip up the rug & paint the staircase, any special instructions? Thanks

i felt the same way and ripped up the carpet anyway--there is hardwood on the first 4 bottom steps--after that is a softer wood--but not plywood. now i want to know what to do next!

From: situationism

we just ripped the carpet off our stairs too. the risers are basic plywood, the steps are a bullnosed (?) hardwood. we plan to sand and paint and add a runner.
