Slippery wooden stairs

someone has used something to clean the wooden stairs & they are now very slippery will hot water & floor cleaner fix it?

i have had to clean stairs that had been sprayed and polished with a wood polish (pledge-type product). i successfully scrubbed all affected surfaces with a mixture of dawn dish washing liquid and water, rinsing well. it is worth a shot and will not require any type of refinish. if that is what was used on your stairs, then it should work. ah, and the paint was an oil based floor paint, if that is of any importance. good luck :)
